Physical Description | Vesper Wells is a young woman of average height and slim build. Her long, blonde hair holds a natural wave and is usually half pinned back with a slide when on duty. She has a warm smile, sincere blue eyes and expressive features that reflect a curious, intelligent spirit. She walks with a noticeable limp, the result of hip damage caused by long-term internal bleeding from a rare genetic condition known as Hesrin Disease. She uses a sleek, customised cane at all times, and on particularly difficult days, supplements it with a lightweight leg brace for additional hip support. Her Starfleet uniform is always immaculate, with a hypo clipped subtly at her belt (an emergency treatment in case of injury). |

Personal History | Born on the USS Ganymede, Vesper was the only child of married Starfleet Officers, Freya and James Wells. She was diagnosed in early childhood with Hesrin Disease, a rare genetic condition that stops her blood clotting effectively. It meant that stopping injuries from bleeding required medication and even the most innocuous knocks and bumps could lead to unwarranted internal bleeding. Despite their love of starship life, Vesper’s parents requested reassignment to Earth to ensure she had access to advanced medical care and a stable home environment. Loving but protective, they tried to gently discourage her from lively activities and pursuing a Starfleet career, worried about the risks and demands. But Vesper had stars in her eyes from a young age, and a deep, persistent certainty that she could make it Even when she was a teenager and repeated undetected bleeds led to permanent damage in her left hip, she was undeterred from her goal. Unable to risk surgery, doctors decided to manage the damage to her hip instead. While it resulted in chronic pain and mobility challenges that required the use of a cane and sometimes a leg brace, she dedicated herself to school lessons in preparation of following in her parents’ footsteps. She remained patient with her parent’s instincts to try and keep her safe and protected inside the home. She knew it only came from a place of love so instead of confronting them about it, she found small ways to push the boundaries without being rebellious. Despite her parents’ concerns, Vesper enrolled at Starfleet Academy with the aim of becoming a yeoman at officer level...not because it was the practical option with her condition, but because she knew she'd be good at it. And the Academy were willing to sponsor her inclusion in the less physically demanding role. Her instructors praised her quick mind, attention to detail and empathetic understanding of how to support a command team. She excelled in administrative tasks, logistics, troubleshooting, personnel coordination, starship operations and mission support. Vesper graduated with honours and was sent to the USS Guinevere for her first posting as an Ensign. |

Service Record | 2385-2388: Starfleet Academy, Starship and Mission Operations, Cadet 2388-Present: USS Guinevere, Yeoman, Ensign Medical History: - Diagnosed with Hesrin Disease in infancy. The disease hampers the blood’s ability to clot, meaning cuts and injuries can bleed indefinitely without medication, or small knocks and bumps (that would be harmless in others) can lead to internal bleeding. - Internal bleeds have led to cumulative internal joint damage over time, particularly in the left hip. The pain and restricted mobility in her hip and leg can vary from day to day. - As a result, Vesper walks with a limp and requires the use of a cane. On bad days, she also uses a stabilising leg brace. - She always carries an emergency hypo with clotting agent and stabiliser on her belt in case of injury. - Regular physiotherapy and medical monitoring have been instructed. Counselling is also recommended to ensure optimal mental health. - She has been cleared for duty with the above requirements, although away mission inclusion should be restricted to low-risk scenarios. |
