| Physical Description | While chronologically 59, Devin appears much younger; at first sight many officers and crew who do not know her would mistake her for an ensign before seeing her rank pips. Devin is an attractive human female with smooth, pale skin, and a fit form maintained through calisthenics, moderate weight training, and cardio. Devin possesses thick, shoulder length auburn hair often worn loose and wild or sometimes tied back in a sloppy pony tail when necessary. Her Hazel eyes often flash with mischievous glee, as if she knows something others don’t. Her expression can run from thoughtful and introspective to sardonic in an instant. Her demeanor is one of someone full of barely restrained energy and would rather stand than sit, would rather pace than stand. She speaks with an English accent influenced by her Irish Mother and it can vary from an almost musical lilt to one of biting sarcasm if the situation deems it necessary to her. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Devin had once been the ideal Starfleet officer full of enthusiasm, eager to see space. Every day had been a potential adventure. Command of her own ship by thirty, Admiral by forty, she saw her future laid out in a clear path. And then Life in all its cruel vagaries happened. Losses, heartbreaks, poor decisions and had worn away at that enthusiasm. Her cheerful disposition had turned to sardonic humor, optimism traded in for cynicism. Fate, it seemed, had worn away at her like a river eroding stone. But her physical rejuvenation seemed to give her a new perspective on life and a renewed optimism. |
|
| Strengths & Weaknesses | +highly intelligent and creative +flair for tactics +loyal to a fault +/- ruthlessly tenacious -hides behind an eccentric façade -can easily form and hold grudges -reluctant to form close bonds |
|
| Ambitions | Devin has yet to develop any strong ambitions. as her prior life had become a shambles and she spent years as a physical child attempting to make sense of what her "new" life might be. She was just about to metaphorically spread her wings as an accredited full time composer before Starfleet came calling again. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Devin is a talented composer and skilled pianist and keyboardist, she is also a decent violinist and can play a few chords on a guitar. She also possesses a strong singing voice but is not eager to show it off. Despite her focus on tactics Devin is still a competent engineer. During the period where Devin was forced to use a cane she had learned various fighting techniques and still keeps up on it. |
| Personal History | Born to medical doctors Robert and Hannah, Devin was the youngest of three siblings and like her older brothers took an instant interest in music. But after a field trip to the moon at the tender age of ten thoughts of exploration and adventure filled her head and led her straight to Starfleet. There she showed a talent for engineering and considered taking that rout, but her instructors saw her potential for command and steered her in that direction. Her career was aided by S.V. Jones the mysterious man whose life she had saved on the Moon who helped guide her career. Things seemed to be going as planned. And then she fell in love. His name was Jorge Straum and he was the Grant’s chief engineer. They were married and soon she became pregnant, and this temporarily quashed her chance at command. She was reassigned to Starfleet Academy until her child came to term, but then Admiral Alynna Nechayev came calling. A couple years earlier Devin had impressed the inhabitants on Angel One and the Federation was engaging in negotiations to have the system join the Federation. Nechayev wanted Devin to head the delegation. Devin reluctantly agreed. Violent separatists had set explosives near the transporter landing site and Devin was caught in the blast. She survived, but her unborn child died. Crushed, Straum could not handle the death and their grief subsequently resulted in their divorce. Counselors at Starfleet kept an eye on Devin and after a year or so believed she was ready to handle the responsibility of command once more. Her brief tour on the Lionheart-a simple task to bring the wounded ship and crew as well as various personnel slated for rear echelon duty-was to determine if she still had what it takes to command a ship of her own. Things did not go as planned, however. Lionheart was attacked by a ship from an alternate future. According to logs found the Lionheart had inadvertently delivered a computer virus that allowed a physical virus to go undetected by Federation medical, sensor and transporter equipment. This resulted in the death of over ninety percent of all humans, allowing the Dominion to win the war. Lionheart was drawn into the future, where it was discovered her escort ship Terminus was the true carrier of the virus. Linking up with this future's rebellion, Lionheart's crew found a cure for both viruses and a way home by using the rebellion's Romulan warbird to slingshot around Earth's sun, as the crippled Lionheart could not withstand the trip on her own. Upon their return, the entire episode was classified and Devin was temporarily assigned to Starfleet Academy before being given command of the Lionheart-A. After several successful missions, The Lionheart-A was chosen as a test bed for extradimensional travel. Only things went horribly wrong and the ship was lost for three years. The vessel, sustaining numerous strains during its voyage, broke nearly in two upon arriving home, it spent weeks tumbling through space, her remaining crew barely surviving on low power and rations, all the while Hadenbeer experiencing horrific pain from a ruined leg sustained from a flesh eating viru. Months of surgeries replaced lost bone, muscle and nerves. Devin was eventually placed in command of the Lionheart B and it seemed her career was back on track. Only Devin's secret got out. The Lionheart A had “adopted” an artificial intelligence which had been instrumental in getting the ship home. Jones had smuggled the AI off of the Lionheart-A and installed it on the B, which was known only to him and Devin. While they attempted to find a way to ensure the AI's survival it became an author, published YA books under a pseudonym. It was found out and Devin aided “Elle” in escaping in the Lionheart B to another dimension where hopefully it would find some measure of happiness. For Devin she was court martialed and it was only her storied career that prevented her from a prison sentence. She was dishonorably discharged and almost immediately “recruited” by Section 31 for a mission to stop a “mad scientist” who was performing illegal experiments with transporter technology. The "mad scientist" (now "mad scientists" because they used the transporter to make multiple copies of themselves) was creating Tuvix type people, making people older and younger, stuff like that. Devin was caught and was de-aged and instead of being restored decided that a few years of inconvenience was worth getting a couple decades of youth. So she had Section 31 create a false identity for her since it was their fault she wound up like that in the first place. By the time Devin was biologically nineteen and had just begun to attempt to live a more or less normal life, Starfleet darkened her door… |
