| Personal History | Cressida Vale was born in 2354 in the domed city of Christopher's Landing on Titan. Her family was spread across the Federation, with cousins and other distant relations living everywhere from Memory Alpha to Cestus III to Berengaria. This meant she was well traveled, visiting relatives across the Federation her entire childhood. She loved the domed cities of her homeland, and would spend her days with friends exploring the urban spaces. Nature was something to be admired from a distance; the methane storms viewed from inside the dome were beautiful and wonderful, but Cressida had no desire to be caught in one. She played a lot of sports in high school, her favourites being different kinds of martial arts. She found that she could best focus a wandering mind at the gym or fighting ring, and let that wandering mind go free during urban exploration. Cressida took the responsibility at age 13 to receive training in first aid. She was the friend that would clean scrapes during urban walks and help competitors who got injured in fights. She was also the one trusted to babysit younger cousins and the kids of family friends. Applying to be a doctor in Starfleet seemed like a no-brainer. She moved to Earth, but was never that far from family. She had distant relatives in the Academy and home was a short shuttle ride away. Her class of pre-med students were among the first responders providing rescue and first aid during the Breen attack on Earth. She lost a lot of friends that day, and she would never forget the true cost of war. Cressida graduated just after the war ended and spent several years interning at Starfleet Medical. In 2379 she took an assignment as a Medical Officer aboard the USS Jupiter. It was here that she had her first encounter with the Borg, when the Jupiter fought a miniature collective at the Hayre Expanse. A lot of crewmates died that day, but no small number was saved because of her direct intervention. The Jupiter was put in for months of repairs after taking severe damage by friendly fire in the Living Construct crisis. She transferred with a number of crewmates, including her Captain, to USS Tucker, which provided relief aid to Cardassian border worlds which nine to eleven years after the war still suffered famines and plagues. She was transferred to USS Guinevere, operating in the Briar Patch, in 2386, where she served as Assistant Chief Medical Officer. Five months later, the department head's tour of duty ended and she became Chief. It was on the Guinevere that Cressida met the love of her life, botanist Alina Tevaris. They met in a stairwell near the science lab deck in 2387. Their romance was fast but no less real for it. They moved in together by the end of that year, were engaged in May 2388 and married in November 2388. At the start of 2389, Cressida was given the additional role of being Second Officer. |
