A new assignment—this time, a starship. Lieutenant Commander Blez Dralis had heard whispers about the Guinevere, particularly its Security contingent. No reports, no gossip, not even speculation; just silence.
It was an odd situation, but Starfleet Command’s orders were clear: he was to take charge, reassign officers already present, and sort out whatever had gone wrong. The irony was that the Guinevere’s captain had requested the entire Security division be transferred to the jurisdiction of the Federation Ground Forces. As a result, Blez would serve as Provost Marshal of the 347th Military Police Regiment, his Starfleet rank converted to Major under FGF protocol.
The work would remain the same—maintaining order, enforcing discipline—but the terminology, the culture, the chain of command, all different. “Sentry duty,” for example, was a phrase he hadn’t heard since the Academy.
He smiled faintly at the thought as the New Hope’s transporter hummed to life. Beside him, his three sons stood on the platform discs, duffle bags slung over their shoulders like miniature officers reporting for duty. The last sound before dematerialization was their laughter at each other, it seemed—then the shimmer of energy carried them to their new home aboard the Guinevere.
The shimmer faded, the Dralis family looked all around the room. Blez spotted a welcomer in front of the operator, Blez saluted casually as he made eye contact and waited.
There was nothing casual about Moriarty's salute. He cast his eye over the family in front of him, still not used to it from his time in the FGFs. His posture rigid and features stoic, he shifted to clasp his hands behind his back. "Major Dralis? Welcome aboard the Guinevere. I'm Major Moriarty, Ground Forces XO."
"Hello sir," Dhomynik greeted first as he took a few steps to stand in front of the other Major and saluted. "I'm Dhomynik Dralis."
Kaedens and Jhaen rushed over to stand on either side of their brother. Slightly different angles of salute, but the intensity was there. "I'm Kaedens Dralis, sir," and he grinned.
"I'm Jhaen Dralis, sir," the last boy's voice was a little softer than his brothers but still could be heard.
Blez chuckled from behind them and came to stand at the end of the line closest to the exit. "Major Blez Dralis, Provost Marshal reporting, thank you sir." He said and saluted as well.
He couldn't help but find his boys adorable, mimicking his salute. Blez did teach them the gesture when they asked about it, it was quite the afternoon. He wasn't sure if it was fun or not for them, they seemed to delight in the instruction.
Moriarty blinked with surprise at the display, but gave each of them a serious nod in turn. "I...think it might be a good idea if I showed you to your quarters before anything else," then the boys could settle. He motioned for them to fall in line, leading the way out of the transporter room. "We set it up for all of you," he assured that the memo had reached them.
"Thank you," Blez's tone was grateful as he herded his boys out into the corridor, following Moriarty. "This is a fine starship." He added a moment later.
"I've not been here long myself," Moriarty admitted with a slight shake of his head, his dark wavy hair shifting with it as he settled his hands more comfortably at his sides. "But I like what I've seen of it. Good facilities, not as claustrophobic as some, decent bar..."
Blez was glad to not be the only new officer, "a bar, you say," he echoed with interest. "Would you be into a late night drink, Major?" Blez inquired, keeping his voice low, luckily the triplets had been walking a little faster than the two Majors, but regularly check behind them to make sure they were going the correct way.
"Sure," Moriarty replied with mild surprise, not having expected the suggestion. It would give them a chance to get to know each other a little better, considering they'd be working in alignment. And without little ears or junior ears around. "It's called the Green Kiss, run by a civvie who handles a knife worryingly well."
Blez glanced over at Jesse. "Oh," he raised an eyebrow. "Interesting, I'll keep that in mind to stay on their good side." They walked down another corridor. "Any chance you know the story behind the name Green Kiss?" Blez was a man on a mission to learn all he could to help him gain friends. "Unless I should ask the bar's owner?" He added a moment later.
"I have absolutely no idea," Jesse had to admit, a soft grunt of laughter sounding in his throat at realising he'd never even thought about it. "Rook looks Vulcan, but I heard rumours that he's more. So I doubt it's for him..." he slowed them down in front of a set of doors, calling the boys back. "Here we go...all yours," he let the other Major open them up and enter his new digs first.
"Rook, interesting name." Blez admitted, as they stopped at their quarters, he offered a smile to Jesse for calling the boys back. "Thanks," he said, and pushed his boys into the quarters' door. It opened instantly with a swoosh.
The boys immediately began running around it and claiming bedrooms in a cycle. Blez sighed and stepped several steps inside. He turned to Jesse. "Just checking we are still good for that drink tonight?"
"Sure," Moriarty gave a nod, watching the boys whirling around with excitement. He had no real experience of family, not like this at least. "They go with you wherever you're stationed?"
Blez watched them as well, he stepped back over to line up with Jesse. "Yes, no one else to look after them. Don't misunderstand, all my family are still living. Just far too busy or unsuitable guardians."
He interlaced his fingers behind him. "Frankly, I'd rather they see the Federation with me. Well, in this particular case, they will get to be amongst the first to see whatever is on the other side of that transwarp gate." Blez smirked, "I suspect they are going to be proud of that when they reach adulthood."
Moriarty watched them for just a brief moment, but long enough to hope that it didn't make them have to grow up too quickly. "You have their needs met?" he asked, the practical voice kicking back in. It wasn't an accusation or demand, just a check-in to know that everything was as it should be.
That was a good question, Blez crossed his left arm just above the midriff to give his right elbow support as he rested his chin in his right hand. He considered the question for a few extra moments. "I'd like to think so, I will be seeing the Support department to get the boys into school and until they actually declare their career related interests, there's not much I can do till then. As for, all their basic living needs, I have them covered so far. Thank the inventor of replicator technology." He arranged his arms and hands to be in a prayer position, as if relaying his thanks across time.
"I can only imagine," Jesse let out a dry chuckle even if the reply was quite literal. He had no idea how working parents did it. And he was unlikely to ever find out. "We can talk shop tomorrow. For now...it's probably best if you get them settled."
The Trill turned to Jesse, "we have to do our boarding medicals, and then, hold on," Blez went to his bag and retrieved a PADD. "Here are orders to transfer 2 Ground Forces personnel to the Military Police, I intend to meet with Sergeant Morven to inform him of the order once I get the boys settled. I want to give the Sergeant as much forewarning as I can, I know I'd want processing time should I be told I had to change jobs." He tapped at the PADD's controls.
"Did you wish to see the order as well?" Blez inquired.
Moriarty nodded, frowning as he reached to take the PADD to see for himself. He was less than thrilled, having two of his men transferred over to the military police without consultation. Switching up the platoon when it was training to work as a unit wasn't ideal, and the men in question might not be pleased with the change. "Yes, let Morven know as soon as possible. I doubt he's going to be happy about it."
"I have a few others coming over soon, prior to our departure, they should be all from the vessels here already." Blez added, "I'll meet them later."
"Sounds good," Jesse folded his arms across his chest, frowning in thought as he nodded lightly. "When you have, we'll put our heads together, decide the best way to get them all working alongside each other. Ground Forces...Military Police...onboard safety...on planet defences...the teams are going to be crossing paths a lot. Best to get them used to it from the get go."
A grin spread across Blez's lips. "Wonderful," he softly chapped his hands once. "I would put forth that training all as one will most likely be the fastest way, I'm not here to cause problems for the Ground Forces. Let me know when the first session is and we'll be there."
"I'll put together a schedule to make sure we get some regular joint training sessions in place," Jesse nodded firmly with that decided, heading towards the door. "I'll let you get your boys settled. Let me know when you want to go for that drink, get those orders to Sergeant Morven, and I'll schedule a meeting for us tomorrow."
"Aye," Blez called after Jesse as he watched the other Major leave his quarters.
For the next hour or so, Blez got Jhaen, Dhomynik and Kaedens to pick their beds before they got to lightly unpacking their bags. He nearly got caught up in placing the few decorations they brought with them, that he nearly lost track of time.
He grabbed the PADD with the order on it and headed out, instructing that the boys continue unpacking. If they finished before he returned, they may explore after leaving a note on their large PADD.
Blez went in search of Sergeant Jace Morven, and the computer told him that the man was in the gym.
