Mission: Pilot - "The Gate"
Location: U.S.S. Guinevere
Timeline: MD 001

----- U.S.S. Astrea -----

Clay checked his console again. An Incoming message from the Guinevere.

"Astrea, this is Commodore McEntyre, target those warbirds!"

Clay nods with seriousness on his face, locking and firing the main Phaser Lance. It's massive nadeon beam lashing out, impacting the first Warbird in it's sight. Quinn moved closer to the battle, the Astrea's shields up and holding tough.

----- U.S.S. Guinevere ----

On the Bridge, Elias could see the Calvary coming in the form of a Galaxy-II Dreadnought. That phaser lance cutting holes into the Warbirds.

"Helm, bring us about! We're going to give these fuckers a black eye!"

Elias tapped his comm. "Engineering, throw what power you got into the Engines, we're need the maneuverability!"

After an unusually long pause, Jalay's voice, almost unnaturally calm, came back over the speakers. "On it."

"Sickbay, I need a report!" Elias called down to the Sickbay.

Over the comm system, a harried voice came across from sickbay. “Casualties have been coming in,” Cressida reported. “Four dead, twenty-eight injured, three of whom critically. I expect all of those numbers to go up if this fight doesn’t stop, bridge! But your son is still safe in my office.”

"Thank you, Doctor!" Elias replied before he closed the channel.

The ship was in trouble; of that, there was little doubt. And despite the arrival of the Calvary in the form of the USS Astrea, the Guinevere needed to reestablish her defenses, and posthaste. It was in situations such as this that the Sciences division needed to shine. Gil Tyris had been working several ideas through his typical rigorous thought processes; he also recognized that the situation warranted a much more direct approach. Innovative, but direct.

“Ops, I need deflector control at Science One,” Gil said to the pale-skinned J’naii.

“The purpose for that being…?” Asked Zinaren pointedly, swiveling their chair slightly toward the Bak’u.

“A properly modulated deflector pulse could reconstitute the shields, at least partially. We just need to match emitter frequencies.”

“I see where you’re going, Commander. Sending it over now.”

Elias got curious, coming over to the science station to lean over his husband shoulder, the ship rocked again from weapons impact.

"Idea?" He asked curiously.

“We are thinking of using a modulated pulse from the deflector array to reconstitute the shields,” said Gil, his fingers moving in smooth and fluid motions over the control panel. “I am in the process of realigning the shield emitters.” He looked over his shoulder. “Give me another two minutes.”

"I'll give you all the time in the world" Elias smiles as he goes back to the center chair.

Elias was hoping that engineering would come through with the engines. The tactical console trilled with more impact damage. Sparks continuing to fly across the bridge. On the main screen, a pair of Warbirds were closing in.

"Tactical, torpedos, give them a broadside!" He ordered as he saw the torpedos race from the launchers, blue spheres flying though the void of space.

"Drevas, where my tac systems!!" He tapped his comms to get a report from his Tactical Officer.

The answer comes through, interspersed with bouts of phaser fire: "I have managed to reboot the system, sir. Tactical systems are functioning at 90% capacity, but that is all I can give without direct access with the appropriate equipment."

"Well Done!" Elias said, turning to the tactical officer on duty once more. "Shields Up!"

"Helm, Bring us about and let's kick these Romulans in the face. Coordinate with Astrea, concentrated fire on the nearest warbirds!"

"Yes, sir!" Zahra said, a smile on her face as she brought the ship around, aiming their stronger phaser arrays and forward torpedo tubes toward their targets.

"Phasers, full spread, FIRE! " Elias command to the tactical officer, as the phasers lanced out at the warbird directly before them, shredding through tier shields as Torpedoes followed up like bolts of blue flying from the launchers. It took a moment before the first exploded in a brillant flash of light.

"Sensors, Report?" Elias turns towards Gil.

“Warbird Gamma destroyed,” said Gil in a tense but measured tone. “Warbird Beta is experiencing cascade system failures and has lost life support. Alpha and Delta have both sustained significant damage to their primary systems.” He paused for a long second, smiling slightly. “They are taking the third warbird in tow and are moving away at high impulse.”

Elias fell back into his chair as the Warbirds veered off. He lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding and let himself breathe for a moment before he keyed the comms panel.

"All stations stand down to Yellow Alert. Department heads, submit damage and casualty reports to the XO. XO to the Bridge. Commodore out."

Elias collapses back into his chair, letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

The battle it seems had been won, safe for the moment being as he looks upon the massive form of the gate before the ship.

A mystery waiting to be solved.
